New Year, New You

I know, I know. Everyone says this. I've said this. You've said this. And does it ever work out? No. It doesn't. I'm still more or less the same person that I was a few years ago, just slightly wiser and more experienced.

Nevertheless, there’s just something about the new year that gives me so much hope. I take lots of time to make sure I have the perfect New Year Resolutions. I make sure everything is organized. I start with my dorm and room at home, closets, drawers, agenda, book bag, desk, anything that could have gotten too cluttered over the year. Once I’m organized and all of my goals are set, I feel like I can do anything.

Now, it's time for you (and I) to set some goals and actually keep them. It's hard though, right? One of my goals is always to eat healthier, exercise and lose weight. But then I see those cookies. Or a Taco Bell sign. And it's usually over from there. But it doesn't have to be. If you have a hiccup in whatever your new years resolutions are, it's possible to just pick back up and keep going. It doesn't have to be an automatic failure if on January 22nd you eat 5 cookies.

This year, one of my resolutions is to actually keep my resolutions. I plan to, when I realize I got off track, gently bring myself back to where I’m supposed to be. If you run into this problem too, one way you can help make sure you stay on track, is to reread your goals and New Years Resolutions often, monthly, weekly, if not daily.

Kirsten from Organized Charm wrote a series last year called “New Year New Life: 31 Days of Goal Setting” This morning I sat down and did every single one. Not only do I now have a clear sense of my goals for this year, and years to come, I actually have a plan on how to execute those goals. I encourage every one of you to take and complete this challenge, I promise it will only benefit you.

New years are the perfect place to start over. But it's not a be all, end all. It's life, there are going to bumps, twists, turns, etc. But just because you have those, doesn't mean you're failing or have failed. it just means you're human and you should try harder next time.

I wish the best for every one of you over this next year. Make this your year. Make this the year you are your happiest, funnest, best. Make this your year to travel, sing, dance, follow your dreams. If you try hard enough, you will succeed. Good luck!

  2. Great post! I rarely fulfill my New Year's resolutions completely, but I do make some headway each year on living a little bit healthier and happier, so I figure it's worth it to keep trying. I definitely agree that a new year is a good place to start over, especially since we suddenly remember all the things we want to change about our lives as we reflect on our lives.

    1. Exactly, I feel we all remember what we need to change and it makes us motivated to change, but sadly, nothing ever gets done!
