Easy Dorm Meals

One thing I learned right off the bat my freshman year was that you will get sick of the dining hall. Very Quickly. However, I started to get the hang of fixing some easy and quick meals that all you need is a microwave (if that). Sometimes you don't feel like eating the same food at the dining hall over and over or maybe you have to do some studying and you don't want to take the time to go to the dining hall. These meals are easy, quick, and you can do it all in just a microwave and they're actually pretty good!

Tuna and Rice:

I kept these two things in my dorm non stop. They both take up virtually no space and when combined the right way they taste really good! There is often times enough to save some for later too!

The cool thing about this is that there are A LOT of options for the tuna. They have Lemon Pepper, Mexican Style, Plain and they also have chicken if you're not a fan of tuna. I love combining the Mexican Style tuna with the rice, a little bit of Sriracha sauce and even some steam-able corn!

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers:

I am obsessed with Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers. I grabbed this one at the store when I was still living in my dorm and I loved it. The flavors were amazing and it all tasted so fresh. They're $2.50 but, if you think about it, that's a really cheap meal, especially if you're considering the quality of the food you're getting also. This takes less than 5 minutes also!

Ramen Amped Up:

I'm really not the biggest fan of ramen. It has literally no flavor and I hate how soupy it is. However, when you're in college you don't really have a choice. It's cheap and easy to make. So when I have to surrender myself to eating ramen, I like to amp it up a little bit. If you take the Oriental flavor of ramen and mix in a little bit of Sriracha and soy sauce. If you're feeling really adventurous, crush up some peanuts and add that into the mix! It won't taste like ramen for very long!

What are your favorite meals to cook up really quickly and easily?

  3. At school I usually just make do with the dining hall and eating out on the weekends (I don't have a full kitchen in my room and I hate the smell of a stinky microwave/fridge!), but one frozen thing I would recommend to you are either the EVOL brand or Amy's brand of frozen burritos! I eat them almost everyday in the summer for lunch during my job- they're affordable, filling and tasty!

  4. Since I live at home I never had to make meals in a dorm but these are perfect for quick meals before rushing to classes. The ramen is such a classic and I agree that it can get boring but the tuna and rice is something I defiantly need to try!

  12. I lived in my sorority house for the past two years and had the luxury of being able to split my meals - some cooking for myself and some in the dining hall. Your options here are perfect for when you just don't feel like going to go eat, or putting in the effort!

  13. Great tips! I love to cook and hated that I didn't have access to a kitchen for most of my time in college. It's awesome to have easy and quick meal ideas- and even more awesome that they won't take up a ton of space to store the ingredients! Great post!

  15. I am so thankful I have never had to live in a dorm... I think I would die if I have to eat any of these items more than once in a week! But I could totally see how they would be great ideas for someone who doesn't have access to a full kitchen!

  21. I have to say, I certainly do not miss college meals...but my go-to was always steamable vegetables in sauce. Quick & easy to make, and it kept off the "Freshman 15." x Nicole | www.changeanddress.com

  22. I work in the middle of nowhere, so I feel like these would even be good for me to keep on hand for days where I don't have lunch meetings and want something quick and cheap!

I lived on a sorority hall with a roommate my senior year, and I absolutely loved going to the dining hall alone because of that. It was my alone time. Haha. Like I sat alone and read a book or checked emails. I was super fortunate because we had an amazing salad bar!

  29. Ramen and tuna all the way! My schedule made real meals difficult, so I ate a lot of peanut butter, bread, and granola bars for breakfast and sometimes lunch.

  30. You'll be impressed by how creative you can get when you can only afford so much. Even being at home when you have a tight budget, we've resorted to either mac n cheese or chicken and rice. I've even attempted to recreate fried rice.

  31. Another way to make ramen bearable (because I cannot stand it either, lol) is to add your favorite protein, lean meat or fish
