Tips for Yoga in Dorm Rooms and Day 7

A while back I gave you tips for doing yoga at your house. It’s really easy to plop out your mat at home and not worry about what people are thinking because you can close your door. But with a roommate, and about 20 other girls on your hall, it might feel a little weird to just pull out your mat and go to town. But I’ve given it some thought, and used some of these strategies the past few days to easily get my yoga fix in anywhere!

Communication// First of all, if you feel silly doing yoga with your roommate in the room talk to them! Say “I’m in need for some yoga, would you mind?” Maybe she’ll get the hint and go swing by Starbucks after class instead of coming straight back to the dorm. Or ask her if she wants to join! You could look up a good sequence on Youtube and have some awesome roommate bonding time!

Candles// If your dorm is like mine, you’re not allowed to light candles or incense. It seriously sucks because I’m obsessed with candles. In my room at home I have at least 3-4 lit at all times! You could try those battery operated candles that flicker like real ones, although they don’t give off a smell, they still sort of give off a candle look.

Music// Just like in the last post, use the Soothing & Relaxation station on Pandora to help set the yoga mood!

Privacy// To really get the benefit of your practice, close your hall door. If you’re just starting school like me, your door hasn’t been closed except for sleeping since you moved in, in hopes to meet some new friends! But in this case, close your door!

Friends// To get a feel of a yoga studio, you can ask your hall mates for company! You can start a weekly yoga night out in the hall!

Above all, don’t get embarrassed or weirded out if there’s someone close by when you’re practicing yoga! People may look at you weird but use it as an opening line for making new friends! You can ask if they want to join you. There are plenty of yoga poses you can do in your bed at night without disturbing your roommate or hall mates. A quick search on google can give you lots of options.

It's the last day of the Back to School Blogger Challenge (and also the last) and the topic is "What keeps you motivated to go back to school each fall?"

I LOVE getting back to school supplies. It seriously makes me so excited to go get new pens, folders, binders, notebooks, and agendas! I also really love getting syllabi and putting all the dates in my agenda. I know, none of that is exciting, but it's always just something I look forward to!

What are your tips for practicing yoga in a dorm room? And what keeps you motivated to go back to school each fall?
