Things About Having A Little Sister

I have one little sister. She's 17 year old. And she's going to college next year. I was just starting college a year ago and here she is getting ready to apply for college and going into her Senior year. It's bittersweet. On one hand I'm so so so proud of her, but on the other hand, I want her to stop growing up! There's a lot of different things that I (and she) have to deal with when having a little sister. Both good and bad. But I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Fights. They're inevitable. Honestly. We fight over everything. But they last about two seconds because we realize they really don't even matter. And sometimes I hate her. She's annoying, she's stubborn and sometimes I can't deal with it. But I love my little sister!

Sharing Clothes. She always wants to borrow my clothes. (And I wish I could borrow hers, but she's a stick and I'm not) If I'm ever looking for a piece of clothing, chances are, she has them.

Texting While In The Same House. We do this. More than we should. The other day we were laying in our respective beds just texting about the show New Girl. We could have easily just gotten up, but ya know. Texting is so much easier.

Being a Role Model. I struggle a lot with this one. I want so badly to be a good role model for my little sister. I want her to learn from my mistakes. But then I realize she has to make her own mistakes like I did.

Best Friends. My sister and I are only a little over two years apart. So we're pretty close in age which makes us pretty good friends. We laugh, we cry, we have our traditions, we hang out, we talk about boys (and girls lol). She's my best friend that just happens to live in the same house as me!

I'm the Guinea Pig. I was the one who got to try out which curfew was the best time (obviously way too early). I was the first to get my license, graduate, apply and go to college. And no one in my family new how to do any of that. So I got to try it all out myself first, and now she gets to easily ride my coat tails because we now how to handle all of those situations!

What benefits can you think of about having a little sibling?

  1. I have a younger sister as well - she's 16. Having a 6 year age gap is hard, and it's taken a while to get close - but we're working on it!

    1. It took us a while to get close too! It really started once we were in high school together! And since I was away all year, we've kind of grown apart a little bit but this summer is helping!

  2. This is SO true! My little sister & I are 7 years apart, and can be completely different yet really similar! We get a long a lot better now that I'm almost completely moved out and she's learned to accept the fact that we're different! I love going home to hang out with her, and miss having time to spend together when I'm gone! This is such a sweet post!

  3. I am the youngest and agree I do all these things. I feel like stealing your older sister's clothes is an actual component. I like them so much of course I am going to borrow it. Love this!

  5. I am an only child so I cannot relate to having a biological sister, but I do have both a Big and Little in my sorority, so I could relate to some of these things for that type of "sister." :-) What a sweet post though!!

  6. I WISH I had a sister for all the reasons you touched upon! (Though I love my brother to bits) Fights are inevitable, but I envy that you have the opportunity to bond with your sister/best friend in a way that goes beyond having a brother :)

  7. Super cute post! I don't have a sister but I do have a younger brother so I can relate to bits and pieces of this. My brother is starting college this fall and I'm just in awe..how is he a real live adult all of a sudden?!

  8. I have a little sister thats 5 years younger (she's 13), and watching her grow up has been such a blessing but also very trying. Her being 13 also reminds me that I definitely didn't look as cool and pretty as she did when I was in middle school...I had glasses, braces, frizzy hair, and a pair of shoes that I wore literally every single day no matter what. Not cute. I sorta forgot what it was like to be a "new" teenager and its so interesting watching her figure everything out on her own! We haven't gotten close until recently, and I'm so grateful for our friendship!

  9. I have a little sister who just graduated high school too and I can't believe it! She's 9 years younger than me so I still see her as a baby. That will be so nice that you two can both get through college together and you can help give her advice her freshman year!

  17. This is too sweet I so wish I had a sister! I have a little brother and while I absolutely love him most of the time he's at the age where he only makes a point to talk to me when he wants something.

  20. I don't have any "blood" siblings, but I do have two older step sisters. We didn't grow up together, but we are still fairly close! Luckily through joining a sorority I found a friend who is more of a sister to me than anyone else. We definitely share these traits and it's wonderful!

  21. I'm the only girl in my family and have one younger brother, so curfews, and sharing things were definitely different for us. I know even with having friends, yes we always liked to borrow each others clothes and texting in the same house, room, couch happened lol

  24. Being the guinea pig when you're the older sibling is so spot on! I definitely had a bit more flexibility in that regard I think since I was the big sister, but I'm just glad that my brother and I are beginning to get closer now as we both get older!
